About You :

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification/s and registration/s. Must be registered with AHPRA & provide evidence.
  • Member of Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA) recommended.
  • Current driver’s licence 

Position Summary :

As a Registered Nurse you are responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of the practice and to provide an exceptional standard of care to our patients. To ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the practice and provide an exceptional standard of care to our patients while supporting flexibility in practice staffing arrangements. You will also support and assist the medical staff as much as possible each shift. As this is a speciality nursing area, you will maintain a professional growth mindset, take advantage of available ongoing professional education provided to you and take responsibility for your ongoing learning.

Key Requirements :

  • Ideally minimum of one year’s nursing experience, preferably in a aged care or Hospital-based role
  • Experience in similar roles as practice nurse or Aged care-based nursing. Back ground or training in emergency nursing or occupational health nursing highly beneficial
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of general practice and interest and commitment to community-based nursing including patient education, health promotion and lowering patient risk outcomes
  • Knowledge of current immunisation schedules, diabetes management, asthma management, enhanced primary care items, infection control, CPR and emergency resuscitation techniques, equipment and drugs
  • Competence in the use of relevant equipment and software (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge of current legislation, practice standards, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including a sound knowledge and understanding of relevant health related information systems
  • Deliver a strong clinical care service
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to educate patients, family and staff
  • Sound planning and organisational skills

Job Responsibility :

Clinical

  • Perform clinical duties within required level of clinical competency, according to best available evidence
  • Explain your position and procedures to patients, ensuring consent, providing them with support and reassurance
  • Duties include triage, immunisations and other injections; wound management, chronic disease management, health assessments for target group of individuals, ECG’s, spirometry and collection of pathology samples
  • Assist doctors with patient care and clinical procedures
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation

Patient Services

  • Assist with triage, data management, diagnostic services, networking with other providers, planning & management of patient care and patient advocacy
  • Telephone patients with test results only as directed by general practitioners.  

Improvement of patient health outcomes

  • Conduct preventative/screening procedures
  • Assist with patient education and community health promotion activities
  • Co-ordinate patient recall, reminder and outreach programs and GP management plans and team care arrangement.  

Patient Visits

  • Provide home/work visits at private residences, aged care facilities and workplaces as required for monitoring & support.

Equipment and Supplies

  • Ensure sterilisation, maintenance and tracking of clinical equipment as required
  • Maintain stocks of clinical supplies, including correct storage (such as refrigeration of vaccines), regular stock rotation, removal of out-of-date stock and ordering supplies
  • Provide input in purchasing relevant clinical equipment and supplies
  • Share responsibilities as directed by the infection control co-ordinator and cold chain maintenance co-ordinator and with other nurses at the practice

Compliance

  • Maintain awareness of current and new legislation to ensure business is complying with all statutory and regulatory obligations including infection control, sterilisation, hazardous materials & safe handling/disposal of medical waste, records management, OHS, and accreditation 
  • Ensure relevant personnel are kept informed and changes are made to systems and procedures as required

Professional

  • Clearly communicates to clinical & reception staff when a paid service is provided from the treatment room to ensure that the practice charges the patient correctly. Always confirms the cost of the services has been communicated to the patient and that the patient consents to procedure & costs prior to receiving the service
  • Act within the practice and nursing code of ethics & appropriate level of clinical competence at all times
  • Maintain awareness of current evidence and research on clinical practices and inform/educate other practice staff
  • Change systems and procedures to ensure compliance with best available evidence as applicable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all ages and social groups
  • Always be well-presented, friendly, courteous and obliging
  • Represent the practice in a confident and positive manner at all times
  • Undertake all duties in a diligent manner, with honesty and integrity
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding patient and practice information
  • Have a vigilant attitude to accuracy, being prepared to double check as necessary
  • Ability to work independently when required and cooperatively when working with all other team members
  • Communicates with all members of the practice team, suppliers and contractors in respect & professionalism including; verbal & written communication
  • Ability to prioritise and organise, with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

Safety

  • The practice has indemnity cover however your own professional indemnity cover also is highly recommended. be aware of OHS requirements and comply with them
  • Always reports near misses & adverse events
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of and compliance with all relevant legislation and common law obligations affecting nursing
  • Discharge of duty of care in the course of practice including meeting practice standards and accountability for nursing actions
  • Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedural guidelines that have legal implications, for example, ensure documentation conforms to legal requirements
  • Practice only within the limits of their educational preparation and competence, while maintaining a growth mindset
  • Identify and respond to unsafe practice, for example, implement interventions to prevent unsafe practice and/or contravention of law
  • Demonstrated patient-focused approach in service provision with genuine empathy and interest in their need
