Matrix Education is now hiring a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our team.
The primary focus of this role is on statutory accounting and reporting, and the month-end process. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accurate financial reporting, and effective month-end closing activities.
This role reports directly to the Finance Manager and is based out of our fabulous Sydney CBD head office.
What you’ll do…
- Prepare accurate and timely submission of statutory financial statements in compliance with local regulations and accounting standards (i.e. AASB),
- Manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors to ensure timely completion and resolution of audit queries,
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in accounting standards and regulations and implement necessary changes in financial reporting,
- Oversee and manage the month-end closing process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting,
- Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies and accounting standards,
- Analyse financial data and provide insights to support decision-making,
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and management accounts,
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial review pack for senior management and board meetings,
- Provide detailed financial analysis and commentary on financial results,
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures,
- Support the development and maintenance of the company’s financial policies and procedures,
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes,
- Provide support for ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as required,
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and comprehensive financial information.
What you’ll need…
- 4+ years’ relevant professional experience in accounting,
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Mathematics,
- CA/CPA qualified preferred, or currently in progress,
- Technically familiar with accounting principles, standards, and regulations (AASB),
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work,
- Proven financial accounting, reporting and modeling skills,
- Proficient in Excel, Word & PowerPoint,
- Effective verbal/written communication skills and interpersonal skills,
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
- Ability to work towards strict deadlines and contribute effectively as a team member within a multidisciplinary team environment,
- Analytical skills and experience handling complex and high volume data,
- Ability to think beyond numbers and combine data with strategy and financial insight,
- A keen eye for problem solving, process improvement and drive to implement change.
