About the Role

Our Major Works Manager provides leadership, technical and management expertise to ensure safe and cost-effective planning and execution of all Calciners, Kilns, Filters, RTO and other refractory related major works, overhauls and shutdowns.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the integration of the centralised major works team and Operations to provide the necessary work identification, pre-work, scoping and planning, scheduling, frontline work management, people management and supervision to carry out the above-mentioned works.

The role will also see you develop, maintain and advance plans for overhauls and upgrades to meet operational requirements whilst maintaining a 10 year look ahead plan. Core activities include but not limited to:

  • Ensure the safe and effective planning, preparation, and execution of all related major maintenance works and overhauls.

  • To ensure that the highest safety standards are identified, set and executed across all major works associated with this role, at all locations, through the effective supervision and leadership of dedicated resource groups.

  • Working with Locations to develop and deploy optimal asset management and overhaul strategies to support operational requirements for assets (and associated supporting equipment’s) across all WA locations, whilst identifying and implementing improved processes and equipment to improve asset life, reduce overhaul frequency, duration and total costs.

  • Engage with key stakeholders and expertise – both internal and external – to develop, a rolling 10 year improvement plan that continually brings to bear the latest technology, materials and best practice to provide continuous and sustainable long term productivity improvements

  • Work closely with Locations to develop condition and health monitoring systems and processes to ensure the stability and reliability of Calciners and associated ancillary equipment between major overhauls

  • Ensure the application and continuous improvement of the Alcoa’s Reliability Excellence (REX ) and Business Systems ( ABS ) for planning & execution of major works and major overhauls

  • Ensuring the development and mentoring of the members of the major works team, and is accountable for the transfer of best practice and technical knowledge to support the growth and development of the individuals.

  • Responsible for facilitating and coordinating the annual and long-term budgets and associated strategies in support of all Locations in regard to works associated with the major works function.

  • Providing SME guidance and advice on operational considerations and options and the respective risks associated, including providing options analysis and risk assessments related to any changes to maintenance strategies, overhaul scope or schedule necessary to meet business needs of the day, capital improvements/changes to facilities and general asset integrity related risk assessments

What you can bring to the role

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Commerce, or related discipline or relevant industry experience.

  • Experience as a manager of service and/or support function in an operational maintenance environment.

  • Proven experience in managing large, regional multi-discipline, multi-location Major Works programs.

  • Knowledge, and expertise in Contactor Management with an ability to enhance contractor performance.

  • Experience in developing and deploying safety and productivity improvement programs with demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change - We always strive for continuous improvements

  • Ability to influence at all levels and engage with multiple stakeholders to build effective relationships.

  • Understanding of Work Management and Safety Management in regard to the safe, efficient and effective implementation of major maintenance overhauls/shutdowns
