The Opportunity
MinRes is currently seeking a Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer to join us at our Mount Marion – Lithium Operations on an 4/3 roster from Perth. Reporting through to the Manager Underground Operations, you will be responsible leading and supporting our team in all aspects of Geotechnical Engineering. This pivotal role involves supervising and managing our Underground Mining Contractor’s ground control activities, as well as providing comprehensive project planning, design, and management support.
- Direct and manage technical functions related to underground development and pre-production activities in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Develop and implement geotechnical systems, procedures, standards, and templates to enhance underground mining activities.
- Identify and manage geotechnical risks, developing systems to monitor and mitigate these risks
- Conduct underground inspections, mapping, and monitoring to ensure ground control and safety.
- Update, maintain and optimise the Ground Control Management Plan, Ground Support Standards, and Trigger Action Response Plans.
- Oversee the compilation and issuance of QA/QC, hazard maps, and monitoring reports.
- Contribute to short- to medium-term underground mine planning, design, and scheduling. Develop accurate and clear Geotechnical Instructions.
- Conduct routine field leadership inspections and support the implementation of geotechnical, mine plans, and budgets.
- Provide input into and Involvement in Long Term Geotechnical Studies.
- Involvement in Operational Readiness Process for in preparation for Underground Production.
What you’ll bring to the team
- Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology with a Post Graduate qualification in Geomechanics
- Proven experience (6+ years) with hard rock underground mining and Geotechnical Engineering
- Proficient using software such as Deswik, Rocscience™ suite and other Geotechnical Software.
- Strong understanding of mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence outcomes.
- Exposure to Pastefill highly regarded.
- Exposure to Open Pit Geotechnical Engineering desired.
