Fantastic opportunity to join our Funds Management (FM) Finance team at a Finance Manager level providing impactful and insightful end-to end finance support and insights to our Fidante & Challenger Investment Management entities.A broad role where you’ll get the mix of being a trusted business partner to your stakeholder groups adding value and thought leadership, and still get involved in the more complex financial accounting and reporting whilst also being able to further develop your skills as a people manager.We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD Office where you can expect to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

What you’ll do

As a Finance Manager you’ll take responsibility for the management of financial control and accounting services for our Boutiques and FM business including delivery of complete, accurate and timely results and reporting. You’ll provide advice, support and implementation for FM initiatives including establishment of new affiliates, distribution partnership and acquisitions.

You’ll drive a culture of continuous improvement and make sure key technology systems are used in an optimal way. People leadership and coaching will be second nature to you as you manage and develop your team of two.

Other key responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to)

Management of budgets and forecasting, including preparation of annual budgets for internal affiliate entities.Finance owner of the entire rebate process including managing the rebate calculation system etc.Management of Tax compliance for FM entities, including Monthly/Quarterly BAS returns, Annual Tax returns, Annual FBT returns, Monthly Payroll Tax and liaising with internal tax teams and external tax agents.Regulatory Reporting.Manage half year and year end reporting processes for the FM entities.The management of audit processes including proactive management of issues and audit deliverables and liaising with the auditors.Key attendee and presenter of financial results at Board Meetings, including preparation of board packs and all relevant approvals.Operating as a finance business partner to key stakeholders and maintaining and developing strong relations with key senior stakeholders, affiliate board members, Boutique principals, CoSec, Auditors etc.

The skills you’ll need

The successful candidate will be a highly organised, dynamic, customer centric accounting all-rounder who can coach and develop more junior team members. 

You’ll need to have excellent technical accounting knowledge with 5+ years post qualification (CA/CPA or equivalent accounting qualification) experience in a senior accounting capacity – this experience will ideally come from the funds management industry, but for the right person we can consider other transferable financial services/commercial experience.

You’ll also have;

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.A business partnering approach, wanting to support your key stakeholders with sound technical knowledge, insights, and advice.Advanced knowledge of Excel and common financial reporting software products.Strong knowledge of accounting for tax.Experience in identifying, assessing, evaluating, and managing risks within a finance team.

It’s a bonus if you also have specific experience with Workday and Workiva and a sound understanding of the funds management industry and products. If no hands experience, then you must have a keen interest and understanding of the industry.

Additional Info –The business and team

The Funds Management (FM) business comprises Fidante and Challenger Investment Management. Fidante’s business model involves taking minority equity interests in separately branded affiliate boutique fund management firms, with Challenger providing distribution, administration and business support, leaving investment managers to focus on managing investment portfolios.

The FM Finance team plays a critical role in the timely delivery of results and analysis as well as the 3-year business plan and reforecasts to key senior stakeholders at Challenger including: the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO); the FM Chief Executive; the FM CFO; Group Boards and Investor Relations.

The team also plays a critical role as the accountant for the Affiliate fund management companies and is a key part of their business management on all finance matters.
