The Role:
As a Building and Construction Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor, you will be responsible for implementing our health and safety strategy across our QLD & NT network. This exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team in the position of Building & Construction HSE Advisor.  In this role, you will provide HSE assistance, advice, training, and support to our staff and subcontractor network in QLD & NT. With multiple offices across both these states and numerous projects requiring a blend of office and onsite activity, this position would suit someone who already has some health and safety experience and is keen on expanding their health and safety skillset with a growing and diverse business in a challenging and diverse, yet rewarding role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive & lead a strong safety culture – a culturally aligned “safety leader” is what we are looking for
  • Enjoy being onsite influencing safe outcomes, with time onsite at our building projects with staff and subcontractors - site inspections, audits, brainstorming solutions to complex issuesand coaching in the moment
  • Reduce risks and prevent injuries through a focus on high risk work activities and safety compliance – ensuring our minimum standards are in play, all the time
  • Keep up to date with HSE compliance in relevant state & national legislation, and holding relevant knowledge on safety compliance
  • Implement, maintain & update project specific HSE plans and SWMS for high risk projects and tasks in line with legislation
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities on matters of HSE regulation and compliance
  • Manage HSE inductions & onboarding process for new internal staff, including HSE communications and toolbox talks
  • Provide advice on HSE matters and issues which arise, in line with our company framework and safety management system
  • Respond to incidents & emergencies, including investigations, reporting & escalation
  • Monitoring of safety compliance through efficient safety systems and technology with a focus on lead and lag indicators, leading to monthly reporting for businesses under your remit
  • Other duties as directed by the National HSE Manager & State Managers including contribution to strategic plans and projects

  • Qualification in Work Health & Safety, essential (minimum Certificate IV in H&S)
  • Previous experience in the Building & Construction industry
  • Competent use of technology and safety systems / technology
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal & external stakeholders
  • Superior communication skills, both written & verbal
  • Results driven & adaptable
  • Excellent organisational skills & attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple / competing priorities & make quick decisions
  • Problem solving & process implementation skills
  • Ability to analyse & interpret data, laws & regulations
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Valid driver licence and willingness to travel regionally and interstate as required
  • Construction White Card
  • Working with Children Check (preferred or to undertake during employment)
