About the office/school

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Partnerships and International leads the development and enhancement of the University’s research, international and partnership strategies, along with overseeing the recruitment of domestic and international students.
 
About the role

The Director of Admissions is a key leadership role reporting directly to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) - Research, Partnerships & International. This role is responsible for strategically planning, managing, and overseeing the University’s admissions operations for domestic students at the national level.

The Director will ensure the effective implementation of admissions procedures, policies, and strategies, providing expert advice based on data analytics to the university’s executive team. The Director will also play a key role in shaping the university’s admissions and enrolment strategy and contributing to its overall strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the DVC to develop and refine the University’s Admissions Strategy, utilising data and analytics to provide insights and recommendations for strategic decisions in admissions and recruitment.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve admissions procedures and policies, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic objectives and compliance with relevant regulations. Manage relationships with external organisations, including Tertiary Admissions Centres (TACs), to support effective admissions processes.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Admissions Office, ensuring processes are efficient and aligned with enrolment planning and university goals. Coordinate with Faculties and other University departments to facilitate seamless admissions operations and provide necessary support.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of Admissions professionals, including planning and allocating resources, coaching, mentoring, and managing performance. Enhance the team’s assessment expertise through targeted training and mentoring to improve customer experience and reduce error rates.
  • Achieve or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the accurate assessment of student applications. Address complex enquiries and complaints related to admissions, providing expert advice as needed.
  • Build and sustain high-level relationships with stakeholders to facilitate cooperation and increase offers and admissions. Develop and maintain expertise in the identification and equivalence of domestic and international qualifications.
  • Initiate and manage admissions-related projects, including process improvements and system implementations.
  • Prepare, manage, and oversee the Admissions Office budget, ensuring effective resource allocation and utilisation. Provide regular budget reports and financial analysis to the DVC.
  • Contribute to university committees, working groups, and other bodies as required, representing the Admissions Office in university-wide initiatives and projects.
  • Comply with all other reasonable training and duties as identified by the line manager (or delegate).
  • Comply with University policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • A Post graduate degree in a relevant field such as Education, Business Administration, Management, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training.
  • Extensive experience in senior admissions or recruitment roles within the higher education sector, including a proven track record of developing and implementing admissions strategies and policies aligned with institutional goals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and leading a team, including performance management, coaching, and professional development. Capable of effectively planning and allocating resources, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvements within the admissions function.
  • In-depth understanding of admissions processes, policies, and best practices within the Australian higher education sector. Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements related to admissions and student enrolment in Australia.
  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret and use data for strategic planning and decision-making in admissions. Skilled in providing strategic insights and making informed decisions based on data analysis.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide expert advice, present complex information clearly, and interact effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality customer service, with experience in managing complex enquiries and resolving complaints.
  • Experience in managing admissions-related projects, including process improvements and system implementations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and contribute to university-wide initiatives, ensuring effective integration with other teams.
  • Proficiency in using admissions management systems and relevant software, with familiarity with current technologies and tools used in admissions and recruitment processes.
