About the role
This position works in collaboration with academic and professional colleagues to provides effective and efficient laboratory support for the School of Health Sciences. The position will report to the Laboratory Coordinator who will assist with maintenance of policies, procedures and forms governing the operations of the Laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, set up and pack down the laboratory/ teaching space and classroom materials to support learning and teaching activities in the School of Health Sciences.
- Assist with the coordination, organisation and preparation of resources required for learning and teaching activities.
- Provide routine technical advice, support and instruction for learning and teaching activities, including the demonstration and use of basic equipment.
- Assist in the conduct of experiments and/or set up of materials and equipment for a range of experiments and demonstrations.
- Conduct routine maintenance and servicing of equipment/workspaces.
- Maintain stock, including the storage and handling of hazardous substances in accordance with University and legislative guidelines.
- Maintain currency of knowledge for all relevant state and industry-based regulations, legislation and policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine risk assessments and report outcomes to the Laboratory Coordinator and escalating any concerns/queries as required.
- Monitor equipment loans to students and inspect outgoing and returned equipment to prevent damage and loss.
- Maintain laboratory records and databases (for example equipment, chemicals and hazardous substances)
- Provide general laboratory administration including correspondence as required, and contribute to preparing the laboratories for special events, such as Open Day.
- Other duties as identified by the Laboratory Coordinator.
- Maintain fair, ethical and professional work practices in accordance with the University Code of Conduct.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Completion of a completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant work related experience, or completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience, or completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant experience and on the job training, or completion of a Certificate III with extensive relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Laboratory experience, including laboratory methods, preferably in tertiary or higher education sectors.
- Developed communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, engage and influence stakeholders
- Demonstrated operational, organisational and administration skills including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Demonstrated of competency in various software packages including the Microsoft Office Suite
- An understanding of relevant state and industry-based regulations, legislation and policies and procedures.
- Ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams, providing a high level and responsive service.
- Proven record of preparing high quality documentation with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
