About this role

Mater has a fantastic opportunity for a permanent part-time Senior Medical Officer in Palliative Medicine to provide medical care and specialist clinical services to the Mater Palliative and Supportive Care Department. 

Mater Hospital Brisbane (MHB) is a level III (university) hospital with an active teaching program. MHB contains a 28-bed cancer ward for provision of integrated oncology, haematology and palliative care and a large ambulatory care facility. The co-located Mater Private Hospital (MPHB) provides private inpatient oncology facilities and the Mater Research Institute and provides research support. The Mater Cancer Care Centre (MCCC) offers a modern state-of-the-art facility that provides individually personalised, comprehensive and compassionate care. The centre includes specialist suites, consultation rooms, cancer care treatment pods, palliative care, support programs and a specialised pharmacy, enabling a holistic approach to cancer care all from the one convenient location.

Salary: Per hour plus superannuation and + 

What you’ll be doing

Provide specialist palliative care clinical services in an inpatient, outpatient and consultation liaison setting. Join a leading academic clinical research department. Supervise and train junior medical staff and participate in teaching on an informal and formal basis. Participate in the Department’s research and audit/quality improvement program. Engage in continuous learning practice. Participate in the on-call roster of the department.

About you

To be successful in the role you must have:

You will be extensively trained in a relevant specialty with a passion for palliative care and experience in mentoring and sharing experience with other staff. Your ability to work independently will aide your success, as will prior experience in research (though not a requirement). You will also have: Specialist Registration in Palliative Medicine with AHPRA Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent, with subspecialty training in Palliative medicine, or Fellowship in the Chapter of Palliative Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FAChPM)
