The Oodgeroo Unit is QUT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student support centre, committed to developing better access to university education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and promote higher levels of participation in tertiary education. The Oodgeroo Unit provides a range of facilities and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across both campuses including the Keystones of Success: Supporting our Future Leaders program.
The Keystones of Success: Supporting our Future Leaders program provides individual tuition support to eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at QUT.
The Oodgeroo Unit requires additional sessional academic appointments to support our students throughout the academic calendar year. Submissions of interest will enter a casual talent pool for the Keystones of Success tutoring program. Successful applicants will be contacted once an available position, suited to their academic background, becomes available.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Students currently in their 3rd and 4th year of study are also strongly encouraged to apply. Please see the GPA requirements below.
Essential:
- A minimum undergraduate bachelor’s degree or significant study towards one (192 credit points or 2 years into degree)
- GPA 5.0 or higher (or relevant and current industry experience)
- A valid Blue Card or eligibility to obtain one
- Demonstrate a willingness to undertake an induction to QUT and complete mandatory on-line training as required for all staff at QUT
- Available to facilitate both online and face-to-face tutoring sessions.
- Experience using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft word and Adobe PDF
- A willingness to facilitate both online and face-to-face tutoring sessions, available min. 4 hours per week
Desirable:
- Prior tutoring experience is desirable but not essential
- Prior experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is desirable but not essential
Additional Information
If your application is successful, you will be contacted by the Learning Success Team for an interview. Positions are based on availability within the study field. This is a contractual based role for the duration of the study Semester. Applications will remain on file for at least 6-12 months.
Sessional contracts should only be accepted if the appointee is confident that they have the capacity to complete the appointed hours.

If this is your first time as a Sessional Academic with the Oodgeroo Unit and/or were a Sessional Academic with the unit before 2024 please begin a new application.
