Photographer

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, home of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Club, is in a unique position to recruit the services of an experienced photographer to join our intimate marketing and communications team.

This position is key in providing professional photography and reports to the Marketing and Communications Manager.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Activities:

• Consult with Marketing & Media team and Senior Management team on photographic assignments and assignment objectives
• Develop a shot list for photographic assignments 
• Read the light & weather conditions the Harbour and adjust shot list according to assignment objectives 
• Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Illustrator 
• Flash photography experience 
• Ownership and demonstrative knowledge of Canon cameras and EF lenses 
• Ability to capture hi-res imagery of sailing & racing, including key movements & actions on the racecourse, team dynamics, action shots
• Ability to document the ambiance of racing, including images of spectators, the venue, and scenic views of the courses
• Ability to document the ambiance of the CYCA, including event photography, venue photography, food photography 
• Provide coverage of the social events, including prizegiving, and work social media platforms 
• Capture candid shots of participants, officials, and volunteers 
• Ability to direct a boat driver to specific locations around the Harbour/course venue to accomplish desirable compositions, camera angles, and so forth
• Bonus – boat license such as a NSW General Boat Licence or US Sailing Level 2 certification
• Produce a daily batch of imagery to be used for press and social media during key event periods such as the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race 
• Manage CYCA & CYCA Media photo library 
• Publish photo galleries 
• Tag meta data and information in the images 
• Understanding of sailing, its history, and racing 

This role will require some work outside of the standard working week (some evening and weekend hours). There will also be a requirement to work all of December for the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Time in lieu will be available.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Visual Arts, Communications, Marketing, Business or Sports Management degree or relevant work experience 
• Current Boat Licence (or willingness to obtain one)

Experience & Skills:

• At least two years in a similar role, preferably within a sailing or sporting organisation
• Photography/videography and editing
• Strong digital and social media literacy and an understanding of analytic and reporting tools
• A proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines
• A passion for sailing or sports in general
