Job Title: Photographer

Job Summary:

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) is seeking an experienced photographer to join our marketing and communications team. As a photographer, you will be responsible for capturing high-quality images of sailing and racing events, as well as documenting the ambiance of the CYCA and its events.

Main Responsibilities:

• Consult with the marketing and communications team to determine photographic assignments and objectives
• Develop a shot list for photographic assignments, taking into account light and weather conditions
• Utilize advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Illustrator
• Employ flash photography techniques and own and demonstrate knowledge of Canon cameras and EF lenses
• Capture high-resolution imagery of sailing and racing, including key movements and actions on the racecourse, team dynamics, and action shots
• Document the ambiance of racing, including images of spectators, the venue, and scenic views of the courses
• Document the ambiance of the CYCA, including event photography, venue photography, and food photography
• Provide coverage of social events, including prizegiving, and work with social media platforms
• Capture candid shots of participants, officials, and volunteers
• Direct a boat driver to specific locations around the harbour/course venue to accomplish desirable compositions, camera angles, and so forth
• Produce a daily batch of imagery for press and social media during key event periods
• Manage the CYCA and CYCA Media photo library
• Publish photo galleries
• Tag metadata and information in the images
• Understand sailing, its history, and racing

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Visual Arts, Communications, Marketing, Business, or Sports Management degree or relevant work experience
• Current boat licence (or willingness to obtain one)

Experience and Skills:

• At least two years in a similar role, preferably within a sailing or sporting organisation
• Photography/videography and editing
• Strong digital and social media literacy and an understanding of analytic and reporting tools
• A proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines
• A passion for sailing or sports in general
