About the Opportunity
Ventia is seeking a full time Environment & Sustainability Advisor who will provide technical environmental expertise and oversee the Environmental compliance and best practice within our Defence contract. 

As part of the broader SHEQ team and working with operational personnel, you will support the contact with regards to all environment, heritage and sustainability matters. Conducting Environmental Impact Assessments against the Federal environmental legislation is a key component of the position. 

The successful applicant will be based at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct (EP2). The role is full-time on a fixed-term contract – through to 30th June 2025.

Key Accountabilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Undertake Environmental Impact Assessments covering Commonwealth environmental legislation and defence environmental factors and values as key considerations. 
  • Assist with implementation, monitoring and continual improvements with regards to the Environmental Management System.
  • Provide support to our operations in managing environmental risks and compliance obligations and environmental approvals.
  • Assist with the development and roll out of environment & sustainability awareness programs and ensure the content is delivered effectively.
  • Assist in the identification and reporting of environmental risks and facilitate the achievement of environmental best practice and risk minimisation.
  • Ensure environmental incident reporting is in line with legislation and contractual requirements.
  • Assist in environmental incident investigations as appropriate including the review of incident reports.

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Tertiary Qualification in Environmental - Science/ Management/ Engineering/Sustainability or similar field (Required) 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A sound knowledge of environmental Standards, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to problem solve and prioritise workloads.
  • Demonstrated experience in an environmental advisor role or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental management system implementation including developing contract specific processes.

Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen.
