Sydney, Australia Willis Towers Watson Full time

We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Claims Advisor with a very strong background in general liability claims insurance to join the Australian Claims Team.  The role may also involve management of some property claims. This role may be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Perth. The role may involve occasional interstate travel where required by client and business needs.

As a Senior Claims Advisor, you will be responsible for claims advocacy for national clients through the provision of technical advice and support throughout the claims process and, where necessary, commercial settlement negotiations directly with the carrier(s) on risk and creative problem-solving.  You will act as an advocate for all General Lines claims classes including including public and products liability, child protection indemnity, worker to worker and ISR/Property claims as required.

With a strong understanding of claims processes and procedures and the applicable legal frameworks, regulations and regulatory bodies, the Senior Claims Advisor will thrive on personally managing and overseeing complex claims across the spectrum of the General Lines portfolio, providing pragmatic advice to clients on validity of claims, appropriate claim strategy and carriers’ coverage, advocating for clients where required, and effectively managing the conduct of claims within their wider commercial context. As a senior member of the claims team the Senior Claims Advisor will also provide guidance to the Claims Specialists and Brokers alike in relation to claims strategy.

The Senior Claims Advisor will also liaise as required with counterparts within WTW globally, proactively managing claims for risks placed in the Australian, New Zealand and other markets internationally.

With a bent towards ongoing improvement, the Senior Claims Leader will also be responsible for sharing knowledge and lessons learnt from claims to support best practice claims management, product development, and to contribute to thought leadership for existing clients and new business prospects.

The Role

  • Responsibility for claims portfolio across Property and Casualty insurance lines.
  • Provide advice, reporting and support to clients in the negotiation and settlement of a loss (partnering with the client advocate broker as required).
  • Working with and guiding client advocate brokers to explain and manage clients’ expectations of their claims experience throughout the life of a claim.
  • Meet with clients and prospective clients and demonstrate claims management expertise.
  • Negotiate for clients with insurers and/or insurer-appointed representatives (e.g. panel lawyers)
  • Engage with all relevant parties to resolve coverage disputes.
  • Provide claims advice for specific policy classes/industry-specific clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct, and/or co-operate with, as appropriate, claims reviews (online/onsite) and periodic legacy claims audit/review.
  • Provide claims specific inputs to client tender processes (Request For Proposal), working with the client advocate and meeting with prospective clients as required.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentoring to assist development of Claims Advisors.
  • Contribute to claims thought leadership.

The above list is intended to be as accurate a reflection of the role as possible.  However, it may be revised from time to time if different tasks commensurate with the role or level of responsibility are needed to be performed and/or when circumstances change.

The Requirements

  • Law Degree or equivalent formal qualification would be highly regarded but is not a prerequisite.
  • Cert IV in general insurance and Diploma qualification (or equivalent experience) would be highly regarded but is not a prerequisite.
  • Holder of all regulatory licenses, permissions and technical or other requirements applicable under local legislation
