Melbourne, Australia Youth Projects Full time

Description

A BIT ABOUT YOU

You might be an emerging AOD, Community Service worker, or a lifelong Community Health worker, but one thing is for sure: you know your stuff when it comes to delivering high-impact support to service users. You have lived or living experience of Alcohol or Drug misuse, but you know this doesn’t define you.

You know the importance of boundaries and frameworks, but you are also an active listener and tailor your support based on the goals and aspirations of the person you are working with. You’ve got experience supporting a range of complex needs and bring a mix of best practices and responsive thinking to help us provide high-impact support without judgment

A BIT ABOUT THE ROLE

The Harm Reduction Peer Specialist will support both the Proactive Overdose Response Initiative and The Living Room Primary Health Service by utilising their lived experience of alcohol and other drugs to engage service users to coordinate pathways out of homelessness and reduce drug-related harm.

Our Harm Reduction Peer Specialist provides non-clinical assistance, utilising their personal experiences to promote understanding and foster connection. Peer workers offer support to others who have shared experiences by facilitating authentic connections, sharing their personal experiences in a way that inspires hope, offering help and support as an equal, and developing positive relationships that demonstrate the power and possibility of change. Note: The Living Room works with people aged 18+.

Key Requirements:

  • Completed Peer Worker training (or willingness to complete within 6 months)
  • Have lived or living experience of Alcohol or Drug misuse.
  • Direct service working with clients experiencing multiple and complex needs
