The role
As a Grade 1or 2 Speech Pathologist you would be responsible for the provision of acute assessment and management of adult inpatients with communication and swallowing disorders.  

About the hospital
Located in Wantirna, Knox Private Hospital is a fully accredited tertiary facility with over 250 beds, providing Emergency Services, Intensive Care and Cardiac Services, including two twenty-four-hour Cardiac Catheter Laboratories. 

The hospital has 13 theatres, which offer a broad range of specialties including Cardiac, Neurosurgery, Robotics, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Urology, Laparoscopic, Colorectal, Vascular and General Surgery. 

Specialised wards include two orthopaedic wards, two cardiac and dedicated medical and specialty surgical wards.

About the role
Are you an enthusiastic Speech Pathologist looking to join a dynamic Allied Health team on a casual contract? The successful applicant will have the opportunity to experience a varied clinical caseload across the acute setting.

The Knox Private Hospital Speech Pathology team is committed to clinical excellence and patient centred care. The department provides a service to adults with communication and swallowing disorders across a board range of specialties, including but not limited to general medical, surgical, respiratory, neurological, cardiac, oncology and critical care.

This is a casual role with shifts Mon- Fri. As a Grade 1 or 2 Speech Pathologist you would be responsible for the provision of acute assessment and management of adult inpatients with communication and swallowing disorders.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assessment and management of swallowing and communication disorders in accordance with evidence-based practice
  • Provision of counselling and education regarding communication and swallowing disorders to patients and families
  • Work collaboratively with patients, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team to achieve shared goals
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical and respectful behaviour and teamwork always in accordance with our core values and the Healthscope code of conduct.

Essential criteria

  • A degree in Speech Pathology
  • Previous acute hospital experience – Minimum of 1 year
  • Membership to Speech Pathology Australia
  • ·Video fluoroscopy and tracheostomy management experience is advantageous
  • Exceptional time management and communication skills
  • ·Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
