Job Description

BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We’re leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future. We’re proud of brands, like COLORBOND ® steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges and stadiums.

The Opportunity

Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for an Electrical Engineer in our Coke and Iron - Berth and Commodities Handling (BACH) team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The BACH team manages our Berth Remediation project, along with other major projects on material handling assets, ship unloaders, conveyors, stockpile yard improvements, as well as various other construction and remediation projects at Port Kembla. In this role, you will be part of a major projects team providing electrical engineering for a wide range of medium to large capital projects. You will also be a part of completing work packages and supporting the site construction works within a multidisciplinary engineering and construction team that deliver major projects across Coke and Iron.

Whether you’re local to the Illawarra, looking to avoid the Sydney traffic, or considering a move interstate, BlueScope offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant coastal city with a well-established culture that drives some of the highest employee retention rates in the market, a workplace where your professional journey is both rewarding and exciting.

What Will You Do?

Working with multi-disciplinary teams, you will provide technical expertise in areas such as design, power systems, drives, control systems, equipment selection and technology improvement identification.

You will also:

  • provide electrical engineering support for the day to day operations of the plant
  • investigate and implement process improvement projects
  • deliver continuous improvement outcomes to support the production and supply of our products

More About You

You will have experience in facilitating engineering design, tender, supply, construction and commissioning. You will also have:

  • a degree qualification in electrical engineering
  • experience with automation systems, PLC, HMI, DCS & SCADA
  • experience with low voltage distribution systems and motor controls
  • experience with variable speed drives and closed-loop control systems
  • sound technical problem solving and trouble shooting skills
