 About the opportunity:

We are on the hunt for a passionate and motivated Payroll Team Leader to join our team. This is a pivotal role in an extremely fast paced business environment where you will be responsible for leading the Payroll team in providing a professional and responsive service in accordance with statutory regulations and company policies, as well as supporting the Head of Payroll as 2IC.  

You will be expected to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior executives, administrative professionals, and operational employees. The Payroll Team Leader will ensure financial accuracy, provide strong governance and ensure that trust in the Payroll function remains high.

Detailed responsibilities can be found in the Position Description which is available upon request and will include:

  • Demonstrating effective leadership to inspire a highly motivated and productive team.
  • Ensuring that the payroll team share a common and energetic vision for the organisation and understand their contribution to the goals, priorities and success of the business.
  • Ensuring payroll has been processed accurately and on-time in the weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay cycles.
  • Ensuring the Payroll team provides accurate, timely and cost-effective support and service and that queries are responded to within agreed timelines.
  • Overseeing EOM (End of Month), including Superannuation, Payroll Tax, Third Party payments and year-end activities.
  • Working with the team to identify operational improvement initiatives.
  • Recommending new or updated processes to improve and simplify existing processes.
  • Complying with all relevant safety, health and environment (SHE) legislation and policies.

About you:

Overall, you will be a self-motivated and outcome-orientated leader – a payroll professional who understands IR and industrial agreements and how this translates into pay. You'll have a passionate ‘can do'/adaptable mind set; be analytical, numbers and detail driven and love a challenge. 

You'll also need to have the following:

  • A Business or Payroll Administration qualification would be advantageous.
  • Significant End to End payroll processing experience within large, complex and high-volume environments.
  • Proven experience as a positive and energetic leader ideally within related industrial sectors.
  • Strong leadership ability, excellent communication and well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in Chris21 (iChris) system.
  • Sound understanding of Industrial Awards/Enterprise Agreements.
  • Numerical accuracy, strong attention to detail and advanced use of excel.
  • An ability to foster trust and effective relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to successfully prioritise competing demands.
  • Demonstrated experience working within the following systems: Google, Kronos/Dimensions (UKG), ServiceNow, SuccessFactors.
  • Experience using IT Support systems (i.e. Servicenow) to prioritise, triage and support end user issues.
  • Be a demonstrated initiative-taker with capability to take ownership of tasks.
