The Commonwealth Infrastructure Projects Division, within the Infrastructure Group, is responsible for providing specialist policy, strategy and project governance advice, oversight and risk management of Commonwealth delivered, significant national infrastructure and transport projects and their associated entities including:


• High Speed Rail 
• Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport
• Inland Rail (and other ARTC delivered projects)
• Intermodal facilities across Australia.

The work across the division is interesting, rewarding and at times fast-paced, giving staff opportunities to contribute their diverse skills, experiences and knowledge to transformational and high-profile projects. Staff also have the opportunity to be directly involved in Australian Government processes, including preparation for Senate Estimates or the selection and recommendation of significant appointments.

The opportunity we have available 

The Commonwealth Infrastructure Projects Division has multiple opportunities available in the Strategy and Support Branch.


The Strategy and Support Branch provides the division with a range of enabling services, it provides strategic communications, government messaging and events management, parliamentary and ministerial support, recruitment, Board appointments, and change and continuous improvement initiatives. 


We are seeking to fill roles within our Communications, Culture and Corporate Support (CCCS) and the Secretariat and Appointments (S&A) teams. The CCCS team provides enabling services, cultural support, leads the workforce planning and communication functions for the division. The S&A team provides meeting coordination and support for the division's Secretary level forums and manages significant board and statutory appointments for the division. 


A merit pool will also be established from this process and may be used to fill future anticipated positions across the division more broadly.

Possess experience in one or more of the following areas : secretariat support, workforce planning, business management and coordination, operational and administrative roles, delivery of board appointments or similar activities.

As an APS6 in the Strategy and Support Branch, you will support a shared purpose and strategic direction, support internal and external relationships, apply and build personal capability and expertise and demonstrate public service professionalism and values at all times. Your duties may include but are not limited to:

Supervising and mentoring staff.  Drafting documentation for a broad range of audiences and purposes, including supporting the First Assistant Secretary, Secretary and providing advice to Ministers.  Collaborating across the division and with various departments to deliver enabling services and briefing material, support Parliamentary processes such as the Division’s appearance at Senate Estimates and coordinate advice to the Senior Executive and Ministers. Engaging with GBEs, external service providers and various departments to conduct selection processes for significant appointments.  Working closely with the division, executive and key stakeholders to progress key tasks. Contributing to cultural initiatives for the division including coordination of quarterly divisional meeting.  Contributing to communication activities including the divisional newsletter and FAS updates.  Providing secretariat support for the division's Secretary level forums including managing the smooth and efficient running of meetings and progression of items for decision in consultation with stakeholders.
