About the roles
In preparation for the growing season, Council is seeking experienced workers to join the team, with fixed term positions commencing immediately until March 2025.
If you are passionate about working outdoors and have experience with maintaining turf and garden areas, you will enjoy these roles. There are multiple positions available:
Leading Hand: undertake turf and garden maintenance within parks, gardens and open spaces working with limited supervision and using your leadership and teamwork skills to provide direction to staff
Field Worker: maintain turf and garden areas, undertake pest and disease treatments and work with the team to maintain beautiful landscapes
Field Worker A: operate machinery and undertake detailed maintenance of garden and turf areas in the many parks and reserves across the city
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Establish and maintain turf areas and gardens and assist with minor landscape construction works
- Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Purchase and maintain equipment and materials to ensure work can be completed
- Ensure all machinery and equipment under the team’s control is maintained

Leading Hand – lead a garden and turf maintenance team
About you
To be successful in these roles you will have:
- Current C Class Driver Licence
- Current QLD ACDC Licence or be able to obtain within 3 months of appointment
- Q Fever immunisation
- FIT Testing for respiratory protection equipment: workers must pass a respirator fit test before they first start wearing a tight-fitting respirator and at regular intervals during their employment. Workers must be clean shaven or only have facial hair that doesn't interfere with the fitting surfaces and the valve of the respirator
- Current MR Class Driver Licence is desirable
- General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) Card (relevant to Field Worker positions)
A pre-employment medical will be required for these roles (including drug and alcohol testing).
About the benefits
These are a fixed term positions, ranging from LGE Level 2 – 6 with a salary commencing at $61,723 for Field Worker and $63,696 for Leading Hand plus 12.5% superannuation.
