Our Australian and New Zealand Surface Water team is a growing team working across a broad range of sectors. We are sought after to provide innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients, reputation particularly in the delivery of water management solutions to the Mining & Minerals industry. As a result, we are seeking an Associate level Hydrologist / Surface Water Engineer to play a leading role in the delivery of our strong backlog of water balance modelling and mine water management projects. As a senior member of our team, you will play a key role in shaping our strategy, winning and delivering a diverse range of technically challenging projects, and providing mentoring to our junior staff.

Job tasks and responsibilities
You will be a positive team player with a self-starting attitude, an eye for detail and great sense of humour, that goes without saying You will be responsible for successful technical and project delivery and will contribute to business development, with specific attributes including:

  • A thorough understanding and demonstrated application of water balance, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software
  • An interest in climate science, water resources and the use and management of water.
  • Strong skills in excel and manipulating data.
  • Ability to delegate to and oversee junior staff
  • Exceptional report writing capability, and ability to prepare quality technical reports for internal and external clients
  • Ability to deliver projects and programs of work to a high quality, on time and within set budgets
  • Capability in developing, facilitating and enhancing relationships between our internal and external clients and SLR team members
  • Keenness to contribute to winning work, by identifying opportunities, executing quality proposals, and developing and drawing on your own client relationships
  • Strong communication skills, providing advice and assistance on projects regarding best principles and practices

Skills and experience
Our ideal candidate will have between 6-12 year's industry experience, including experience within a consultancy, and have:

  • Appropriate Engineering or Science tertiary qualification and relevant industry experience working for or within the mining sector
  • Experience in water balance analysis and modelling using GoldSim
  • Experience in hydrological modelling and assessments (RORB, WBNM and XP RAFTS) and understanding of Australian Rainfall and Runoff and relevant guidelines and standards
  • Knowledge and application of two-dimensional hydraulic modelling (TUFLOW), water quality and stream flow assessments and flood risk analysis highly regarded
  • Ability to assessment and have input to the design of water-related structures such as pipes, pumps and dams (levees and diversions highly regarded)
  • Familiarity with dam condition and consequence category assessments and yield studies
  • Excellent communication skills and technical report writing capability
  • Experience working with, and successfully overseeing, junior staff
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects to quality, time and budget
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation and ability to work effectively within a team
  • A growing track record in building, nurturing and maintaining client relationships
  • A current driver's license
