Cochlear seeks a full-time Mechanical Engineer based in Sydney to support the R&D Implants Mechanical Team. The role involves designing and developing implant products, conducting engineering analysis, and contributing to experimental design and statistical analysis.

The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a full-time Mechanical Engineer based in our Sydney, Macquarie office. In this role, the successful Mechanical Engineer will predominantly contribute to the design and testing of our implantable products, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions to improve the lives of individuals with hearing loss.

Responsibilities include:

  • Verification & validation through rigorous testing and protocol development
  • Experimental design, statistical analysis, and reliability assessment.
  • Clear communication, networking, and managing priorities effectively.
  • Ensuring quality through compliance with procedures and safety protocols.
  • Mechanical design and development to meet project requirements.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Required:

  • Knowledge of mechanical testing (impact, fatigue, etc.).
  • Awareness of medical device regulations and relevant international standards.
  • Awareness of product risk management principles.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and control tasks that involve product development or a design change.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent.
  • Strong self and time management skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to all internal and external stakeholders.

Desired:

  • Experience in implant development, in particular electrodes and/or stimulators.
  • Awareness of Verification & Validation principles.
  • Experience using collaborative software tools e.g., Jira, Confluence.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Experience in parametric design, preferably Creo 2/3/4/5, and simulation software.
