Beef Extension Officer

Join the Grazing Futures Livestock Business Resilience Team and make a meaningful impact on Queensland's extensive livestock systems. As an PO2 Extension Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting beef, sheep, and goat producers, enhancing their business resilience and sustainability. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with producers, promote best management practices, and contribute to Queensland's agricultural sector.
- PO2 equivalent payrate $48+ p/h + super
- Located in Roma QLD
- Starting asap on a temporary casual assignment.
About the role
- Enhance producer knowledge of key performance indicators for their livestock businesses, and support the identification of grazing, production, and business strategies to improve drought resilience and, where applicable, reef water quality.
- Develop technical and informational materials and deliver training to producers, both one-on-one and in group settings. Regular travel is required to ensure engagement and follow-up on best management practices.
- Facilitate business benchmarking and support the development of business plans that address key drivers within livestock production systems.
- Contribute to monitoring and reporting on the impact and value of departmental services and projects for beef, sheep, and goat producers.
- Utilise extension methodologies, including face-to-face, webinars, and online training, to build relationships and promote improved enterprise performance and environmental outcomes.
- Contribute to project deliverables of a high standard, influencing the adoption of practices across the industry.
- Adhere to project governance and processes within a leading Research, Development, and Extension organisation.
About You
To thrive in this role, you need:
- Agricultural extension or farm business management experience.
- Bachelor's degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) in Animal, Agricultural, or Environmental Science. or similar work experience.
- Commitment to obtaining vaccination or providing evidence of prior immunity to Q-Fever before commencement.
- Knowledge of extensive livestock grazing industries.
- Experience and understanding of the beef, sheep, and goat industries in Queensland.
- Willingness to travel extensively across regional and remote Queensland.
- Current 'C' class driver's license.
- Must have full working rights in Australia.
- Be able to pass and hold national police check.
