Your Opportunity

Youth Beat is a unique mobile outreach service that connects with young people on “their territory”. It offers opportunities for some of society’s most vulnerable young people to turn their lives around by providing access to vital services.

The Youth Beat Workers are based at the Community Hub at Chigwell House and will spend time supporting and connecting with young people in community via outreach work using the Mission Australia Youth Beat Van.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate mobile outreach engagement and support to vulnerable young people aged 8 to 18 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
  • Work with young people who are facing challenging multiple barriers.
  • Proactively build rapport, trust, and relationships with young people
  • Identify specific needs of young people and create relevant referral pathways.
  • Participate in community events and deliver activities where young people gather within the community.

Requirements for Success

With a significant background in the child, youth & family, homelessness, social work, health, human services, or other social science disciplines, you will be confident in your support and assessment processes.  Other requirements include:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications and experience in Youth work or related field
  • Proven assertive outreach work experience in engaging and supporting at risk young people.
  • Experience and ability to work with at risk young people including knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Strong crisis intervention skills, including working with people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues, mental health issues, disengaged from education, and family conflict.
  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nations people and communities.
  • Strong time management and administration skills, including computer skills in Microsoft Office, and ability to adopt Mission Australia’s web-based Information Managements system (training will be provided)
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including report writing and data collection.
  • Ability to work within a small and multi-disciplinary team and with minimal supervision.
  • Must have Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
