Garvan’s Genomics and Inherited Disease Program (directed by A/Profs Jodie Ingles and Owen Siggs) is one of seven strategic research programs, and aims to bring together experts in genomics to improve outcomes for individuals with inherited diseases. The Program brings together leading clinicians and genomics researchers at Garvan and beyond, providing supportive infrastructure and end-to-end expertise.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Genomics and Inherited Disease Program Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of Garvan’s Genomics and Inherited Disease Program. The successful applicant will provide management and oversight to support the delivery of the program, including working closely with internal and external stakeholders, and will also be responsible for day-to-day operations. Where desired, there is also the potential for supervision of junior Program staff.

Salary: Up to $121,000 + 11% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)

Employment Type: 2 year full time term contract

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Working with the Program Directors, and other internal and external stakeholders to implement operational plans for the Program

  • Partnering with Program Directors and Faculty to develop funding plans for the Program, and contribute to the planning and writing of funding requests from government, philanthropic, and industry sources

  • Working with scientific and professional staff to develop and manage complex technical documents and reports, including submissions to Human Research Ethics Committees, Governance, and Contracts

  • Overseeing the financial management of the Program by working closely with the Garvan Finance team to track spending, perform budget forecasting, and creating reports

  • In collaboration with Program partners, identify and track the unique data resources of the Program, including genomic datasets, protocols, and other technical documents and resources; including pipeline development and SOPs.

  • Manage relationships with internal professional support teams to champion Program

  • Communicating with key external collaborators, stakeholders, and potential funders to identify and develop new project opportunities (including the flagship Genomics of Rare Disease Registry), communicate progress, champion collaboration, and ensure the timely completion of projects in alignment with set goals

  • Continuously surveying Program operations to identify areas of inefficiency or potential risk, and work with Program leadership to address these issues

ABOUT YOU

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management and/or a related administrative discipline

  • Demonstrated experience in program/project management, including the capacity to manage multiple projects on time and on budget, with a high degree of independence

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead the generation of reports and funding proposals, and give presentations

  • A strategic thinker who enjoys grappling with complex scientific and organisational challenges

  • Highly organised and capable of managing a complex and dynamic workload with strong emotional quotient, and strong relationship management skills
