About the Role

This Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow, based at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre's Goel Laboratory, spearheads projects at the forefront of cellular senescence and cancer epigenetics, aiming to enhance breast cancer outcomes. Under the guidance of A/Prof Shom Goel, the lab explores the intricate interplay between cell cycle biology, epigenetics, and tumour immunology, driving advancements in drug therapies. Supported by prestigious research fellowships, the role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries and translate them into transformative clinical trials.

Your responsibilities will include:

Significantly contribute towards the research effort of the team and to develop your research expertise with an increasing degree of autonomy. Actively participate in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings in their area of expertise as opportunities arise. Contribute to and assist in the co-supervision and training of research students at graduate and undergraduate level. Conduct internationally competitive research (in collaboration with Senior Academic staff), resulting in publications in high impact journals.

Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate should possess advanced technical expertise in cancer epigenetics or immunology, with a strong publication record and demonstrated research aptitude. Additionally, they must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, fostering collaborative partnerships, and the ability to work effectively in diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

You will also have:

Completion of a PhD in in cancer biology, with a focus on cell cycle biology, epigenetics, immunology, or a related discipline. Demonstrated technical and advanced experience in cancer epigenetics (, ATAC-seq, Cut & Tag, Cut & Run) and/or cancer immunology. Demonstrated ability to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication. Strong evidence of ability and desire to build an academic research career trajectory.

This position will be based within The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre home to the largest cancer research site in Australia, with more than 750 laboratory and clinical researchers, nurses, and support staff working in Australia’s most advanced cancer research centre. The Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology at the University of Melbourne, located within the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, uniquely integrates cancer research with clinical practice. With a team of 700 researchers, their work encompasses various aspects of cancer management, from genetic risk assessment to developing innovative therapies. This research is supported by advanced infrastructure and technology, enabling both laboratory experiments and clinical trials to improve cancer treatment and patient outcomes.
