Postdoctoral Fellow - Bioinorganics

Job no: 527097
Work type: part time
Location: Sydney, NSW
Categories: Post Doctoral Research Associate

One of Australia’s leading research & teaching universities Vibrant campus life with a strong sense of community & inclusion Enjoy a career that makes a difference by collaborating & learning from the best

At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work.

The School of Chemistry at UNSW is recognised nationally and internationally, for producing world-class fundamental and applied research in the field of Chemical Sciences to address real-world challenges. The School's research is focused on five key themes: Health, Energy. Advanced Materials, New Chemical Frontiers and Knowledge Exchange.

The Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) works within a multidisciplinary team conducting pioneering research into the synthesis and characterization of novel cofactors designed as His-TyrOH analogues for Cytochrome c Oxidase (CcO). This research, which bridges the fields of bioinorganic chemistry and synthetic chemistry, aims to advance our understanding of the electron transfer and proton pumping mechanisms critical to CcO’s function in cellular respiration.

The Postdoctoral Fellow plays a crucial role in the development, optimisation, and implementation of these synthetic analogues. Working closely with the research team, this role carries out independent research to explore the role of the His-TyrOH moiety in the dioxygen reduction process, contributing to the broader field of bioenergetics. They will synthesise and characterise new cofactors, optimising their properties to reveal insights into the efficiency and precision of biological electron transfer systems.
