Clinical Haematology is a vibrant multi-disciplinary service providing advanced care and research opportunities in all aspects of haematology.

Your role in our future.

This role is a 12-month full-time clinical fellow position within Clinical Haematology of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Responsibilities include the oversight and care of patients undergoing clinical trial and non-clinical trial treatments in the field of Myeloma and related conditions.  The position is also expected to contribute to the development of new clinical trial concepts and support and participate in lab-based research across the precinct in the field of myeloma.  

Position Summary

This position is as a full time clinical fellow for 12 months (or up to 24 months for outstanding candidates) within Clinical Haematology of the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia.

Responsibilities include the oversight and care of patients undergoing clinical trial and non-clinical trial treatments in the field of Myeloma and related conditions.

The position is also expected to contribute to the development of new clinical trial concepts and support/ participate in lab-based research across the precinct in the field of myeloma.

Internal :
• The position will be expected to work closely with all members of the
Clinical Haematology team and in particular Senior Medical Staff, Nurse
Consultants, Donor Co-coordinators, Research Staff, Apheresis Staff and
Laboratory Staff involved with the delivery of cellular therapies.

External:
• VCCC Precinct Partners

Skills

Essential Requirements:

• Applicants will have medical qualifications registerable within Australia and evidence of
significant experience in clinical trials or the clinical application of cellular therapies in
myeloma. A higher degree in haematology, immunology or cellular therapy is strongly
desired.
• Post graduate qualifications in internal medicine and haematology
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting.

Desirable Requirements:

• Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines

1. Provides high quality patient care
using an evidence based, cost
effective approach

• Participates in registrar or consultant ward service roster (as applicable to
experience) which includes overseeing patient care for all patients admitted to
haematology service or referred to service during that rostered period.
• Liaise with the consultants appropriately regarding decisions about
management issues.
• Attendance to selected outpatient and day ward clinics. All private practice
revenue will be donated to the hospital
• Complete all patient related documentation according to the Institute’ s needs.
• Liaise and communicate with the multidisciplinary treating team.
• Contribute to team meetings and educational activities.
• Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities.
• Participates in departmental research projects and audits.
• Responds to on call commitments within an appropriate time frame.
• Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
• Close liaison with specialist members of the Haematology, Apheresis and Cell
Therapy Units.
• Follows hospital policies and procedures.

2. Clinical Research Protocol
Development

• Develops clinical/ translational research Protocols, including preparation,
submission to committees, analysis and manuscript preparation.

3. Manuscript preparation

• Substantial opportunities for participation in research projects exist and
academic submissions of abstracts or manuscripts for publication are
expected.

4. Laboratory Research participation • Participates in Laboratory Research Program.

5. Haematology Unit Treatment
Guidelines

• Assist the Haematology Fellows to coordinate and develop/update
Haematology Unit Treatment Guidelines.

6. Trains residents, medical students
and participates in other educational
activities

• Participates in internal and external educational programs.
