Fixed term (24 months), Full-time, Mt Lawley

OPEN TO CURRENT ECU EMPLOYEES ONLY

Overview
The School of Arts and Humanities has a strong focus on creative arts education and research, delivered through the academic programs in its Creative Humanities discipline cluster. This cluster is responsible for Creative Writing, Communication (Advertising, Public Relations, and Strategic Communication), Design, Journalism and Broadcast Media, Screen Production, and Visual Arts (including Photography). To extend and enhance our research and education in these disciplines, the School is seeking to build strong strategic partnerships with a range of cultural organisations in the broad domain of the creative industries, including community, government, and business partners as we plan and execute our move to the ECU City Campus.

The Role
We are seeking a motivated and enterprising person, skilled in the creative arts and industries, to:

  • develop our creative industries engagement plan;
  • enact that plan by initiating and building partnerships with relevant external parties;
  • organise, with appropriate administrative support, events and activities that promote, create, or develop partnerships;
  • provide advice to academic colleagues on creative industries engagement; and
  • provide relationship management support to sustain these partnerships and enable them to achieve strategic benefit for all parties.

Additionally, the role involves supporting internal activities that can enable stronger partnerships such as strengthening our creative arts research program and developing the operation of specialist facilities in the creative arts. Finally, it involves coordinating school initiatives with the wider university development of industry engagement for the City Campus. The role involves both leadership of self-generated initiatives and the provision of support to assist others’ initiatives and requires high levels of skill in managing work to successful outcomes involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Organisational Context
The Adviser will be a member of the Professional Services Team and formally report to the Operations Manager. The Adviser will be supervised on a day-to-day basis by the Associate Dean Creative Humanities, and work closely with other school executive members including the Executive Dean and the Associate Dean Research. The Adviser will liaise with the Academic Coordinator (WIL) and other academics involved in the delivery of educational courses and research activities.

Selection Criteria
You must have a tertiary education qualification in a creative arts discipline or equivalent experience, successful prior work experience in the creative industries and a good knowledge of contemporary creative arts practice and/or research within universities.

You must be able to:

  • identify, build, and maintain formal and informal engagement networks and relationships in the creative industries that lead to partnership formation.
  • set objectives, prioritise tasks, manage time and resources, and monitor progress to achieve desired outcomes.
  • work independently and deliver solutions-oriented results guided by broad strategic directions.
  • Collaborate effectively with professional and academic colleagues as both a leader and participant in the delivery of engagement outcomes.

You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.
