ABOUT THE ROLE
Ngala's Thriving Families program is a supportive initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable families, including Aboriginal, CaLD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse), and young parent families, as well as those facing challenges like Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) and disability. The program focuses on fostering positive parenting, enhancing family resilience, and creating safe, nurturing environments for children’s growth and development.
An Aboriginal Liaison Officer in the Thriving Families program plays a vital role in connecting with Aboriginal families, helping to ensure culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful support. This role involves building trust within the community, offering guidance to Ngala’s staff on culturally sensitive practices, and providing direct support to families in navigating parenting resources and services. The Liaison Officer also advocates for Aboriginal families’ needs within the program, helping to strengthen family bonds and promote wellbeing in alignment with cultural values and traditions.
ABOUT YOU
- Aboriginality: Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. Exception is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act.
- Demonstrated experience in providing a culturally responsive and safe service to Aboriginal people; including working with families with young children; people-centred care and treatment, and an understanding of barriers to families accessing support services.
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal history leading to the current health issues impacting Aboriginal families and children and demonstrated involvement with an Aboriginal community.
- Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills; particularly an ability to build relationships with Aboriginal communities and people from a wide range of backgrounds, and ability to establish respectful, collaborative relationships.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results, for example time management and prioritisation, project management.
- Satisfactory National Police Clearance obtained within the last 6 months.
