How will I help?

Group Treasury is part of the Finance division of Westpac Banking Corporation. Group Treasury is responsible for the strategic management of the Group’s balance sheet to support and enable the customer led strategy; ensure appropriate balance of risk and reward within the risk appetite and strategy set by the Board; and meet the Group’s regulatory obligations.

There is an opportunity to join the Westpac Group Treasury team for a full time role. Within this team, the role will focus on Structured Funding and Capital, a key part of the Group Treasury function. Structured Funding and Capital are responsible for the development, planning and execution of securitisation transactions, covered bonds and capital instruments for the Westpac Group, to meet the Bank’s funding, liquidity and capital needs.

The role will focus on the Structured Funding side of the business, including securitisation (residential mortgage backed securities) and covered bonds, with possible scope to also work in the capital execution side of the business over time.

Core Responsibilities will include - 

  • Assist with the management of existing covered bond and securitisation programs
  • Assist with the development, structuring and successful execution of new transactions
  • Effective communication with key stakeholders on market, governance, legal and regulatory requirements for structured funding transactions
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Consumer Bank, Finance, Tax, Legal, Investor Relations, Rating agencies and Trustees
  • Assist with preparing board and functional sign-off papers
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations for investors and rating agencies
  • Gain experience in reviewing transaction documents
  • Assist with responses to regulatory change and information requests from regulators

What do I need?

As part of a small team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about financial markets, securitisation and covered bonds and assist with the day to day management of structured funding transactions. As required from time to time, they will work with other team members to successfully execute structured funding transactions to provide new wholesale funding for the Bank.

You will be working with senior members of the Structured Funding and Capital team, other areas of the Westpac Group, regulators, rating agencies and various service providers. The role involves analytical work, management of transactions and exposure to debt markets. 

Ideally you will have:

  • 1-2 years banking or finance experience
  • A relevant bachelor or post graduate degree
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good time management skills
  • Attention to detail;
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Energy and willingness to contribute, to learn new skills, and adaptability to take on new tasks based on needs
  • Experience in any of the following would be well regarded, but is not required:
    • Capital markets;
    • Management and execution of debt or equity instruments; or
    • Background in financial modelling, credit analysis, regulatory requirements, legal, tax and/or accounting.
