We're a Melbourne based, Australian owned-and-operated Internet Service Provider that provides residential internet and phone connections Australia-wide, with a focus on regional and remote Australian connections.

We have an opportunity for a Computer & Systems engineer with Linux experience, this role reports into the Network & IT Manager who oversees the overall IT Operational Effectiveness across the Residential & Enterprise business. This is both a challenging and rewarding role that will allow the opportunity to flex and extend technical skills while working within a Level 2 team.

You will help with the responsibility of maintaining the day-to-day ISP services. We are an all-round all-encompassing team that support and build everything ourselves. There is extensive opportunity to design, build and implement new systems within a wide range of technologies.

· Monitor and optimize server and system performance; troubleshoot and support workstations and communication infrastructure.

• Provide technical support, diagnosis, testing, and resolution of complex system problems.
• Develop and review automation scripts for system maintenance and create technical documentation.
• Analyse, deploy, and evaluate complex system design and architecture specifications; integrate computer systems based on architectural diagrams.
• Utilize backup solutions for data protection and recovery; administer directory services.
• Maintain documentation for servers and VM inventory; record diagnosis and resolution of faults and system enhancements.
• Ensure endpoint protection and threat intelligence; develop and enforce OS and security policies.
• Administer Windows and Linux servers, virtual machines, and firewalls.
• Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and enhance network applications, servers, and workstations.
• Monitor, analyse, and evaluate network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance configurations.
• Perform preventive maintenance of backup and recovery procedures; enforce security and integrity controls.
• Assess and recommend improvements and appropriate configurations of systems and operating systems.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to installation, maintenance, repair, upgrade, and configuration of operating systems, desktops, applications, printers, and email.

Ideally you will have the following:

• 5+ years of ISP or equivalent industry experience with exposure to solutions for both residential and corporate customers

• Extensive hands-on experience with systems from vendors like Dell, HP, and IBM.
• Proficient in data centre operations, capable of managing and executing data centre activities independently.
• Strong understanding of system architecture and design, including virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and storage solutions.
• Handle staff-related tickets as well as customer tickets escalated by the Level 1 team, and be familiar with ticket management systems like Jira.
• Hands-on experience with CentOS and/or Debian operating systems.

Desirable skills/experience:

• Traffic capture and Wireshark analysis
• Prior experience for migrating to and maintaining cloud environments (AWS, Azure) as well as Office 365 products (mailbox, teams, SharePoint)
• Web & Email Filtering (Amavisd, clam, SpamAssassin)
• Excellent Shell scripting skills
• Vmware ESXi
• Apache and scripting/automation
• HP hardware, Proliant servers, blade, standalone and storage
• Storage experience (HP Storage solutions experience and understanding of network storages, distributed file systems, zfs, gluster, Fibre Channel, iSCSI and NFS management)
• Keepalive LVS load balancer
• Maintain company's corporate IT environment, handle PC related requests from staff and troubleshoot the issues faced by them
• Proficient in maintenance, patching & upgrades of DHCP, radius, MySQL cluster, KVM Hypervisor, InfluxDB, Icinga, collectd and Grafana
• Authoritative vs Recursive DNS
• Ansible & PHP hands-on
• Knowledge of system management, including installation, custom channels, deploying virtualized systems, basic client-based security, repositories, and creating core builds
