The role of Senior Underwriting is to ensure that quality, sustainable and profitable business is established for the product through the execution of a high degree of technical expertise. The role contributes to the execution of the Commercial Portfolio Strategy through the application of product, pricing, customer retention and acquisition strategies to deliver the targeted Insurance Trading Result (ITR) for the Product(s) in accordance to the Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA).

The Senior Underwriting grows and develops key intermediary relationships, delivers exceptional customer service, and facilitates multiline opportunities. The role collaborates across teams, removes blockages to performance and proactively looks for ways to simplify and improve the underwriting process.

The role is also responsible for the development of local Underwriting capability through the coaching and mentoring of Underwriters.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Monitor their allocated Portfolio against all budgeted KPI’s – Renewal & New Business MTD & YTD, GWP & ITRSubject matter expert for the immediate team and senior referral point for product within the stateAssist in the development and execution of agreed Product StrategyMonitor Underwriter adherence to agreed Product Underwriting ProcessMonitor execution of strategy and agreed process in key Product areas – i.e. Surveys, Facultative Reinsurance, Processing to MainframeFacilitation of multi-line opportunities as appropriate.

Skills & Experience:

Minimum 10 years commercial experience in insurance, coupled with relevant qualificationsMinimum 10 years Commercial Motor fleet underwriting experience in insuranceDemonstrated knowledge of portfolio, underwriting and pricing practices and policiesStrong market presence and well-established relationships with our intermediariesUnderstanding of relevant Insurance products, industry, market environment, reinsurance structures and customer segmentAbility to underwrite at an advanced level in accordance with Risk Appetite, Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA), Underwriting Guidelines and Business Licence Ability to use technical product knowledge to set terms and conditions and determines their acceptability in comparison to risk appetite for each customer.
