About the Role
The Head of Workplace Relations shapes the workplace and industrial strategy across ANSTO’s broad and diverse workforce, aligned to the organisations’ strategic objectives . Reporting into the Director People, Strategy & Performance (CPO), this is a pragmatic individual contributor role, leveraging the support of HR Business Partners, Legal and external providers to deliver pragmatic workplace solutions and compliance, whilst building on-going working relationships with unions and other employee representatives. This is an important role at ANSTO working both strategically and practically across the organisation.
  
Key responsibilities:

  • Act as a strategic advisor, partner and conduit between employees, senior leaders, executives and the PPC team to enable effective workplace relations.
  • Provide timely advice to ANSTO Leaders and the HR Business Partners as a point of escalation, ensuring risks are assessed with practical early resolution of workplace matters.
  • Collaborate with the legal team on complex case management, investigations, and matters, including advocacy in Tribunals and/or Courts as required (advocacy experience regarded).
  • Ensure relevant workplace policies are contemporary, employee centric and aligned to the ANSTO Enterprise Agreement and relevant legislation.
  • Provide effective governance and oversight of people related investigations across the organisation, including effective reporting up to Board level.
  • Keep abreast of workplace legislative and regulatory changes and provide proactive advice, guidance and communication/change management to executives, leaders, and staff (tailoring communication accordingly).
  • Lead workplace reviews and negotiations, including the enterprise agreement renewal process (current 3 year agreement recently negotiated and agreed).
  • Develop proactive strategies to upskill ANSTO’s leaders and PPC team members in effective employee relations and leadership practices.

  
About You

  • You will have a contemporary approach to workplace relations and be technically proficient across workplace agreements and legislation.
  • Relevant experience working across medium to large, complex, and diverse organisations with white- and blue-collar employees in addition to qualifications in human resources or industrial relations (or other as relevant).
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing frameworks, policies, processes and practices in relation to required workplace relations material.
  • Project management experience working cross-functionally to implement regulatory and compliance solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with workplace investigations, particularly with the principles of procedural fairness and an employee centric approach.
  • A pragmatic, business focussed, proactive and highly collaborative approach with excellent communication skills.
  • You will have worked with unions, with strong stakeholder management skills, able to build trusted relationships, influence and have experience negotiating Enterprise Agreements.
