Nuclear Baseline, Mindset and Capability Lead: SSN AUKUS Build Program
13 hours ago
ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.
Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.
About the Opportunity
The Nuclear Baseline, Mindset and Capability Lead plays a pivotal role in establishing a robust framework for people, culture and process within ASCs Nuclear operations. This position is responsible for the coordination and creation of comprehensive approved governance structures and assurance working arrangements that ensure compliance and operational integrity. Additionally, the Lead supports the Nuclear Baseline by defining core capability requirements tailored to each licensing phase, facilitating a clear understanding of necessary competencies and resources, and ensuring the ‘right nuclear culture’ for the people undertaking the work. The role includes both input into, definition and monitoring the cultural transformation of the enterprise by promoting the ‘Nuclear Mindset’ (core values from the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA)) to foster the right behaviours for a nuclear environment.
The Nuclear Baseline, Mindset and Capability Lead will work within the Nuclear and Capability Department (NCD), however coordinate external activities with other Shipbuilder and external stakeholders including internal Shipbuilder NSQEP, Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI), ASA and the Australian Nuclear Regulator on all nuclear related activities. By defining core capability requirements for each licensing phase, the position ensures that the organisation has the necessary skills, appropriate resources, and processes in place to operate safely and efficiently. This proactive (self-motivated) approach not only mitigates risks but also fosters a culture of safety and accountability within the organization. Ultimately, the Lead's contributions help create a safer nuclear environment, protecting both personnel and the public.
This role represents a rare opportunity to work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia.
Note: This role is established early in ASCs Nuclear pathway. Therefore, this role will change with the evolving needs of the business.
This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA.

- Identify and mitigate risks associated with nuclear operations. Develop and implement risk management plans to address potential issues and ensure the safety and reliability of nuclear systems.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, including project updates, technical reports, and regulatory compliance. Provide regular updates on nuclear operations.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in nuclear operation processes and systems. Implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance.
