About Defence Joint Transition Authority

Defence Joint transition Authority (JTA) offers a broad range of programs and services to help Commanders, Australian Defence Force members and their families manage the military way of life. DMFS supports Defence families' self-reliance and increases the capacity of the wider community to support the needs of Defence families.

The Directorate of Transition Coaching and Support (TCS) sits within JTA and delivers Defence's ADF Transition programs. These programs are designed to support members and their families plan for civilian life. Participation in the transition process is mandatory for all ADF members regardless of the reason for leaving. The Defence Force Transition Program provides access to specialist advice, paid leave and training to support members and their families in their transition to civilian life. Access to the needs based programs is supported by a transition coach.

Job Description

The Transition Coach Will be responsible for providing coaching to members transitioning from the ADF to civilian life.

The Transition Coaches responsibilities include:

  • Developing an individualised Transition Plan to assist ADF members and their family with becoming transition ready;
  • Conducting face to face coaching including providing information on current employment market and job search techniques;
  • Providing coaching support to more complex cases as required;
  • Providing advice on assistance such as Defence Force Transition Program (DFTP) and benefits that assist ADF Members to prepare for civilian employment;
  • Advising and guiding ADF members through the departmental administrative processes;
  • Ensure all record keeping is accurate and up to date;
  • Providing information and referral to internal and external support services

The maintenance of accurate case/client data records and the provision of quality client service are essential to this role. Intensive workplace training to learn standardised coaching practices will be required to be undertaken.

The ideal candidate for this role would possess:

  • A proven ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally, both in person and using digital platforms
  • Willingness to undertake further training as required
  • Have experience or knowledge regarding JTA Transition programs and services
  • Experience in career coaching or similar
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent communication both written and oral
  • Persuasive with the ability to influence
