Our Queensland Metals business is polymetallic and operates five underground hardrock mining operations a wide complex of processing plants, plus port and logistics operations.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager you will be leading a small team working on the planning and design aspects crucial in developing the long-term strategic mine plan across two of our deepest sub-level open stoping sites copper sites and a satellite caving to maximise value for Queensland Metals and Glencore as an integrated entity.

Our ventilation systems includes some of the largest installed cooling capacity in Australia, including multiple surface exhaust fan installations, numerous intake shafts and hundreds of fans of all shapes and sizes underground.

We are currently working to re-define our approach, and have a busy few years ahead as the ventilation network changes to accommodate the closure of legacy working areas and the development of new stoping blocks in reactive/hot ground. In addition, adequate technical analysis and planning is required to define pathways to successfully integrate potential future mining projects, such as polymetallic stoping and additional cave areas, into existing operations. This role will primarily focus on modelling, designs, planning and optimising systems.

About You:

        • We want someone motivated and enthusiastic to refresh our ventilation approach.
        • You will desire to challenge established norms and constructively redefine our processes and systems.
        • You will have significant experience working in underground mine ventilation, supported by a relevant qualification in Engineering or Ventilation.
        • Ideally, your qualifications will include either the UNSW Graduate Diploma in Mine Ventilation or the SIMTARS Ventilation Officer - Underground Metalliferous Mine course.
        • Your experience will consist of time working in an underground mine operational setting and enough hands-on practice to consider yourself to be an advanced user of Ventsim software.
        • Experience using Deswik software or other Mine Design packages will be advantageous.
        • Your ability to demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving and analytical skills will be vital in executing this role well.
