Mount Isa Mines is one of the oldest, largest and most complex mining operations in Australia located in Mount Isa, Queensland. Employing over 4,000 people, Mount Isa Mines is now looking for a new member to join the team.
The Operation
Mount Isa Mines is the second-largest producer of copper in Australia and one of the largest zinc mines in the world. It is a key asset in Glencore’s global mining portfolio.
The Mount Isa Copper and Zinc operations are integrated across the entire supply chain, from resource identification and development to the production and distribution of copper, zinc and lead to customers across the world.

We also provide an excellent remuneration package and benefits including above market superannuation and retailing discounts. This role can is residentially based with also the option of FIFO for a suitable candidate. This position reports directly to the Superintendent Geotechnical.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Ensure compliance is maintained with the Ground Control Management plan and QLD Mining Quarrying and Safety ACT.
- Training and mentoring of Geotechnical Engineers and providing ground awareness training to site personnel.
- Conduct and report empirical and numerical modelling results of new mining blocks.
- Record and interrogate monitoring instrumentation, report, and develop action plans in conjunction with operations and planning engineers.
- Ground support product trials and reporting to optimise ground support designs.
- Ensure department KPIs are achieved and performance reporting.
The successful applicants will have:
- A tertiary degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or Geoscience, with majors in Mining and/or Geotechnical engineering.
- A minimum of 6 years experience in underground hard rock mining.
- Demonstrate teamwork, strong communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, and analytical skills.
- High level of accuracy in their work and ability to manage time effectively.
- Competent in using the following software packages: Rocscience, Deswick, Leapfrog, FLAC.
- A sound knowledge of risk management, safety systems and legislative requirements.
