Overall Purpose of the Job:

This position is responsible for ensuring the TGE fleet (Road and terminal based fleet and containers) is designed, sourced, and maintained to build TGE’s reputation as an industry leader in safety whilst simultaneously enhancing our customer proposition.

The role of the Fleet Engineer will be instrumental in assessing the risk, impacts, and mitigation strategies associated with introducing new fleet and equipment models or makes to our business. Similarly, the role will apply safety learnings and industry best practice to oversee modifications to existing fleet and conduct risk assessments of our legacy fleet to deliver exceptional value in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist input into the design and sourcing of new fleet to ensure they are fit for purpose, align with TGE’s customer and strategic requirements.

  • Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of the safety, efficiency, and suitability of potential new fleet and equipment models or makes.

  • Collaborate with the procurement team to identify and select fleet suppliers based on defined criteria and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

  • Authorise modifications, retrofits, and upgrades to the existing fleet, ensuring that all modifications are appropriately licenced and performed in accordance with the highest safety standards and company policy.

  • Assess the risk associated with introducing new fleet models or makes, considering factors such as maintenance, spare parts availability, and training requirements for drivers and technical teams alike.

  • Implement Management of Change processes to mitigate risk factors identified for modified or soon to be introduced fleet.

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including operations, maintenance, and finance teams, to identify opportunities for improving fleet performance, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.

  • Work with the HSE team to conduct risk assessments of the existing legacy fleet and develop mitigation/preventative strategies.

  • Work closely with the HSE team, 3rd party investigators and business leaders to undertake post incident investigations where fleet failure is a potential cause. And provide specialist advice pertaining to structural or engineering matters.

  • Keep abreast of industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to fleet engineering and logistics, and make recommendations for incorporating new technologies or practices into the company's fleet operations.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to the TGE Fleet Maintenance team, ensuring that they have the necessary knowledge and tools to maintain the fleet to the highest standards.

  • Work with internal maintenance and compliance teams to ensure protocols and procedures are in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements, quality management standards and customer requirements as they pertain to fleet structural elements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement fleet-related initiatives, such as fuel efficiency programs, vehicle telematics, and preventive maintenance protocols.

  • Project manage new product trials and demonstrations, ensuring key data points are collected and analysed for future strategy.
