About the Role


This dynamic role offers a blend of clinical individual and group work and training for future psychologists. You will provide expert psychological counselling, prioritising triage, assessment, and shorter-term interventions to address high-risk situations. You will also design and deliver therapeutic group programs, workshops, mental health training, and resources, empowering the university community. Supervision includes to clinical psychology interns and psychology registrars, , shaping the next generation of mental health care.

Your responsibilities will include:

Delivering high-quality initial assessments and shorter-term interventions, prioritising high-risk cases, participating in case-management/peer review process and professional development while adhering to ethical guidelines and best practices. Designing and delivering therapeutic group programs, workshops, mental health programs, and the provision of clinical supervision to empower students, staff, and future psychologists. Continuously developing skills, and contributing to a positive and innovative workplace environment.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone who with a proven track record in managing mental health issues and passionate about exceeding expectations, building relationships and guiding new psychologists. You demonstrate professional autonomy and decision-making in relation to client assessment and management issues, including responding sensitively and creatively to complex mental health presentations, and are interested in continuously developing your professional knowledge and skills including through regular case management and peer review processes. You enjoy working within a supportive and friendly team and actively contribute to a team culture that fosters innovation, teamwork, high achievement, continuous improvement, and job satisfaction.

You will also have:

Extensive post qualification experience in the provision of counselling and psychotherapeutic services, including with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Current registration as a psychologist with AHPRA (Clinically endorsed) and as a PsyBoard approved supervisor. Demonstrated ability and experience to plan, deliver and evaluate in person and online therapeutic group interventions, workshops, training programs and consultancies. Experience in the provision of clinical services within a shorter-term counselling and clinical management model, and/or in a university context is desirable.

Your new team - Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) - Student and Scholarly Services
Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is part of the Wellbeing suite of services in Student Success, Student and Scholarly Services. CAPS provides free psychological counselling to students and staff and delivers a range of training and consultancy activities. The service is led by a Manager and Head of Service, with three Senior Counsellors, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the service and comprises around 303 people including Counsellors, Locum/Psychology Registrar Counsellors, Intern Counsellors and reception/administration staff.
