Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance and Risk Lead to join their team in Sydney. This role is ideal for a senior engineer looking to transition into a leadership position. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing compliance and risk management activities, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and standards, including CASG, ITAR, and NV1.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement compliance and risk management frameworks specific to maritime defence projects.
  • Ensure all activities comply with CASG, ITAR, and NV1 regulations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Lead internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members on compliance and risk management practices.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and standards.
  • Report on compliance and risk management activities to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate compliance and risk considerations into project planning and execution.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a compliance or risk management role, preferably within the defence or maritime industry.
  • Hands-on engineering experience, particularly in the defence, maritime, or aerospace sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of CASG, ITAR, and NV1 regulations.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing compliance and risk management frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team.
  • NV1 clearance is mandatory; applications without NV1 clearance cannot be considered.
