About the Opportunities:

John Paul College is currently seeking two experienced and qualified counsellors to join our Primary and Secondary school welfare teams.

A student counsellor at John Paul College plays an integral role in fostering the wellbeing of students through a proactive and supportive counselling approach.

The successful candidates will see themselves working in collaboration with the students, teachers, academic welfare, and counselling teams at JPC to encourage and promote student wellbeing at the College.

These roles are a specialist part-time positions working term time only one day (seven and a half hours) per week.

The opportunities available are:

  1. Primary School Counsellor
    • One day per week (Tuesday)
    • Hours of work being 8am to 4:15pm.
  2. Secondary School Counsellor
    • One day per week (Friday)
    • Hours of work being 8am to 4:15pm.

The duties of these roles will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing personal counselling to students, addressing their emotional and social needs.
  • Communicating effectively with students and parents regarding their concerns and progress.
  • Being available by appointment to discuss student progress with parents.
  • Supporting colleagues in their efforts to enhance student well-being.
  • Modelling the College Values of Mutual Respect, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence.
  • Carrying out individual and group counselling;
  • Planning/providing professional development for school staff when required;
  • Providing professional insight and advice to the College leadership and academic staff;
  • Maintaining confidentiality of both students and families within the parameters of duty of care and school context;
  • Balancing professional and administrative standards in accordance with the College policies.

About You:

The ideal candidates for these roles will have:

  • A Masters of Counselling.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in a school-based setting.
  • The ability to create, support and encourage inclusive learning environments which foster positive relationships.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  • A commitment to upholding the vision and values of John Paul College.
  • A current Counselling Registration.
  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
