The Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) established in 2017, was designed to monitor the health, service utilisation, medication use, mortality, and other health specific outcomes of people receiving aged care services. ROSA’s efficient model leverages existing information, bringing together diverse datasets collected by different organisations throughout the country, to provide us with a whole picture of the ageing pathway. ROSA produces evidence to guide decision-making for quality, coordinated, efficient, innovative, and age-friendly services and practices.

We are seeking a Pharmacoepidemiologist / Epidemiologist to join our team in supporting research with a focus on pharmacoepidemiology and health services for older people. In this role you will conduct analyses of large datasets, provide pharmaco/epidemiology expertise on protocol development, study design, analytical methods and publication of research findings. The role will work independently, as well as collaboratively with the ROSA team, research partners, staff and stakeholders of research projects.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

Conducting high quality research with a focus on pharmacoepidemiology and health services for older people accessing aged care, including planning, project management, literature review, data analysis, and publication. Conduct analyses of large datasets (> 1 million individuals) contained within ROSA, including aged care data, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data, Medicare Benefits Schedule data, and hospitalisation records. Provide pharmaco/epidemiological expertise on protocol development, study design, analytical methods, statistical analysis, interpretation of results and implications of findings. Undertake and coordinate high level statistical analyses, including using complex multivariable modelling, and survival analysis. Knowledge of sophisticated techniques for confounding adjustment, and other observational data features are highly desirable. Preparation of papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals and project report writing in a timely manner. Manage and coordinate research projects needs through their lifecycles. Advise/monitor project timelines, milestones, and deliverables. Collaborate with analytical team data management, linkage efforts, and quality control processes when necessary for ROSA’s implementation, performance enhancement, and other areas as needed. Assist with preparation of ROSA grants for competitive funding and project tender submissions in related areas when appropriate.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

PhD degree qualification in pharmacoepidemiology / epidemiology (or public health / medicine / allied health or related field). Minimum of 2 years experience as a pharmaco- /epidemiologist or related role. Excellent proficiency working with at least one software package (i.e., SAS, R, or Stata). Two years experience working with large datasets independently. Preferable experience working with medicines, health service and/or aged care data Experience working with observational data, multivariable modelling, confounding/interaction issues, survival analysis, data visualisation. Excellent attention to detail with demonstrated ability to work with a high level of accuracy and competing deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including excellent record keeping and version control skills. Demonstrated experience in providing high level leadership/support to research projects / multidisciplinary teams.
