The Faculty of Science teaches approximately 7000 full-time student equivalents, with an academic staff of approximately 500 and general staff of 300. The Faculty is one of the largest and most complex faculties of UNSW Sydney. It comprises the School of Aviation, Biological Earth and Environmental Science (BEES), Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS), Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, and Physics. It also includes several major Research Centres and field stations.
The Project Administrator plays a key role within the Faculty of Science in providing administrative support for project teams and key stakeholders of the Faculty of Science Research Team.
The purpose of this role is to assist operations of Higher Degree Research (HDR) student administration and activities including the development of an Industry PhD program, alongside the UNSW Graduate Research School (GRS) and the Australian Graduate School of Engineering (AGSE). The aim of this role is to build awareness of the Industry PhD program and associated travel support scheme to key stakeholders within the Faculty (PhD students and supervisors).
Key responsibilities will be identification of students and supervisors, oversee the implementation of platforms to support the program, and the facilitation of enrolments by Faculty PhDs into the Industry-linked PhD program. Additionally, the role will be expected to assist the Associate Dean Research (ADR) with promoting the program and linkages between the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering.
About the role
$85k - $96k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading Fixed Term – 2 years Full-time (35 hours per week)The role reports to the Faculty of Science’s Senior Research Project Officer and works closely with the Faculty of Science’s Associate Dean Research (ADR) and Associate Dean Research Training (ADRT).
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
Provision of consistent and high-quality administrative support to the Faculty Research team, including coordinating the administration of HDR courses, activities, and events, with relevant stakeholders. Oversee daily administration functions and operations of the Industry PhD program, providing support where necessary to the ADR/ADRT and GRS positions. Assist with the reporting of Industry engaged PhDs for the government as required by GRS. This requires collaboration with staff and students to ensure reporting is accurate. Demonstrate attention to detail in the identification of students that will fit within the scope of an Industry-linked PhD. Provision of general administrative support including enrolments of students into the program, alignment of the program with AGSE and tracking students as they progress through the program. This will include students who elect to enrol in AGSE courses and attendance at networking events that fulfill 70 hours required for the AGSE Industry program. Assist with mentoring and networking events for the program, and course enrolments alongside AGSE. Help promote the program, including through staff meetings, webpage development and updates, program flyers and participation in university expos to build awareness of the program. Conduct data collection and reporting as and when necessary. Ensure timely and appropriate response to urgent and sensitive stakeholder communications. Perform various additional tasks as required by the ADR/ADRT and GRS positions to support the program’s objectives. Ad-hoc administrative duties to support the research team. Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others. To be successful in this role you will have:
Bachelor of Science or relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and analytical abilities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiate and work independently while managing competing demands. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.You should systematically address the selection criteria listed above in your application.
