About the role
As an AO5 Senior Policy Officer, you will assist the Director and Principal Policy Officer to drive strategic policy activities that support Queensland's small businesses and contribute to the functions of the Office of the Small Business Commissioner. This is a unique opportunity to shape policy development and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to create impactful changes for small businesses in Queensland.
- Policy Development & Coordination: Support strategic policy activities, including research, stakeholder consultations, and formulation of policy recommendations that benefit Queensland's small business landscape.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research, analyse complex issues, and assist in crafting policy solutions through reports, briefings, and other strategic documents.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external networks, ensuring effective communication with government and non-government agencies to keep policies and strategies aligned.
- Project & Team Coordination: Collaborate with teams to formulate innovative and workable policy options and manage the coordination of projects across various departments.
- Communication & Reporting: Utilise high-level written and oral communication skills to present findings, engage stakeholders, and maintain accurate and thorough records.
- Office Support: Aid in supporting and coordinating the functions of the Office of the Queensland Small Business Commissioner as directed.
About You
To thrive in this role, you need:
- Expertise in Policy Development: Strong understanding of the principles and practices that support effective policy development and implementation.
- Adaptability and Resilience: Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and deliver results within deadlines.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent consultation, negotiation, and communication skills with experience interacting across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Research and Analytical Skills: Proven ability to lead and report on complex projects within set timeframes.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including experience in creating reports, briefings, and presentations for a variety of audiences.
- Tertiary qualification in public policy, governance, human-centred design, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a policy officer or similar role is desirable.
- Must have full working rights in Australia.
- Be able to pass and hold national police check.
