About the role

Strategic Sourcing Manager is a capability expert and is a servant leader for their chapter members. Their primary function is to build the relevant capability necessary to deliver value to the Tribes and help, guide & support the chapter to develop and maintain the standards, quality and tooling relating to the delivery of their capability across the organisation. The Strategic Sourcing Manager - Buying: Woolworths Food Company leads a core squad within the Woolworths Food Company to grow sales and margin in Food & Exclusives. This role is a crucial point of contact between our Portfolio Managers, Commercial, Finance, Quality, Sustainability, Operations & Supply Chain to ensure a cohesive approach to sourcing projects.

This role requires the successful candidate to leverage their communication and influencing skills to bring multiple internal departments together to align in unlocking maximum value. They will lead in support and engagement in collaborative working sessions with suppliers as we partner for a “Better Tomorrow.”

This team member will engage consistently with our FoodCo team to support supplier landscape reviews, performance and ongoing maintenance to continue growth for Woolworths Food Company

Key responsibilities will include: 

Design and lead the sourcing strategy for Own Brand Categories / Agile delivery - you will effectively lead a group of categories agenda across the streams of work by bringing together the key stakeholders and driving the sourcing plan through strategy thinking. You will lead the sourcing activity, stakeholder and change management activities to support the annual operating plan and deliver on best Horizontal leadership and stakeholder engagement – there is a critical role to play in the management of key stakeholders across the Australian Foodgroup, through delivering clear, independent and strategic insights and recommendations. Governance and compliance through capability to develop the commercial elements of supply contracts including specification,  Price review mechanism, delivery & tenure in consultation with the legal team. Risk Mitigation - monitoring existing business and supply base and proactively mitigate risks through dual supply and fully integrated supply strategies to support sales growth and sales during crises. Work collaboratively across key stakeholder groups (WFC,Commercial, Wholesale, Export & wider ecosystem) to deliver to the Own Brand sourcing strategy and broader strategic initiatives. Support prioritisation and phasing of the Agile transformation 


About You

The role requires a high level of commercial acumen, with daily buying, selling, and trading bulk materials in various processing and packaging facilities being common. Multi facing stakeholder engagement requires the manager to operate professionally and in accordance with legal and policy undertakings set by both Woolworths and relevant legislation. 


Desirable skills, attributes and experience will include: 

A strong combination of Sourcing excellence and commercial understanding Role model tenacity, resilience and the ability to learn and adapt to new concepts and ways of working Demonstrated experience delivering sourcing strategy with the ability to identify and implement truly cross-functional solutions. Strong negotiation & analytical skill-set and a self-starter who has a strong sense of ownership whilst ensuring that stakeholders have ”buy-in” Experience in identifying trends and key financial risks, in order to assess the risks and opportunities for Woolworths and assist in the development of COGS initiatives Scenario modelling (using variables such as FX, variable cost drivers etc) Able to prioritise, work under pressure, meet deadlines and provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders through effective work planning & structured communication The ability to engage and communicate with all stakeholders with differing interests and priorities. Being able to adapt style and influencing skills to work effectively and collaboratively 6+ years professional experience - with experience in retail or FMCG fast-paced working environment.  Previous demonstrated leadership skills and capabilities - leading, coaching, developing teams
