Your Opportunity

Welcome to the heart of our team As an Aboriginal Engagement Facilitator, you'll be instrumental in weaving connections and contribute the effective implementation of Mission Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Your role is pivotal in nurturing an environment that provides cultural awareness, supports relationships with identified stakeholders. You will also be mentor and support staff to develop their skills in delivering culturally safe, secure and appropriate service provision.

This position will require travel across South East NSW, flexibility in working hours to accommodate community schedules and events.

This is an identified position under section 14(D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and all applicants must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians. Being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Contribute the effective implementation of Mission Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) at a local level
  • Deliver cultural respect training to staff across the region one on one or in groups
  • Hold, maintain and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, ie. DCJ, ACCO’s and other NGO’s
  • Act as a central point of contact and coordination for local RAP commitments
  • Equip staff as they authentically support the implementation of RAP
  • Facilitate advocacy for change by bringing various stakeholders together
  • Work with LARG to promote MA’s RAP to all staff and localise key deliverables
  • Actively participate in National RAP Reference and Aboriginal Knowledge groups

Requirements for Success

  • Knowledge and understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both mainstream and Aboriginal community
  • Significant experience or engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide information and educational activities to a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Demonstrate high level of written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel across Mid and North Coast.
  • Desirable - A tertiary qualification or experience in human services, project management or a human service-related discipline
