**What you'll be doing**
The Aboriginal Care Coordinator will perform a liaison role by supporting, guiding, and referring Aboriginal clients,
family members and carers to access timely and appropriate ISLHD services for cancer prevention and management. The position aims to improve access, equity, and health care for Aboriginal people with cancer, promoting patient centred care and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, facilitating an approach in 'closing the gap' between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cancer outcomes. A large component of the role is to ensure care coordination for each person is informed by factors such as connection to land, gender, kinship, inter-generational trauma, family ties, language barriers and socio-economic issues.

**Talent Pool**
Applicants holding temporary visas with working rights may be considered for a temporary appointment up to the expiry date of their visa. However, this option is only available when no suitable applicant for a permanent appointment is identified.
A National Police Check (criminal history record check) is a requirement for all new appointments to NSW Health and will be undertaken on preferred applicants, with the informed consent of the applicant.
This role is a **Category A **role. Preferred applicants will be reviewed for compliance and required to maintain compliance with the screening, assessment and vaccination requirements, relevant to your position, as outlined in NSW Health policy directive on Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases.
For positions designated as child-related employment, or positions that may result in proximity to children, you will be required to obtain a Working with Children clearance number from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
Please note that a volunteer WWCC (which is free) cannot be used for paid employment.
Selection Criteria
- This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Hold qualifications in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or other health related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated active involvement and 'lived experience' in Aboriginal communities, with a deep understanding and commitment to improving the health issues impacting Aboriginal communities.
- An understanding of cancer care provision, and the ability to guide Aboriginal people through the system in a culturally safe way.
- Demonstrated health care experience and sound leadership skills to facilitate effective and culturally appropriate education and training to ISLHD cancer services staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and confidence in negotiating with clinicians as part of the multidisciplinary team to advocate for best patient care.
