About the role

This role supports SA Water’s Water Treatment Operations group in the day-to-day operation of our water treatment plants in the central & far north regions of SA, ensuring that drinking water quality standards are achieved and maintained.

As a treatment plant operator, you will be responsible for:

  • The safe & efficient operation of our regional water treatment plants to ensure compliance with drinking water quality guidelines and SA Water procedures. 
  • Routine plant maintenance & inspections (repair/service/calibration of plant equipment). 
  • Input into the development and improvement of operational procedures & methods. 
  • Assisting with the ongoing optimisation of water treatment processes. 
  • Effective collaboration to ensure team goals are achieved.

About the Person

Our ideal candidate will have had previous experience working within a team environment, have the ability to meet deadlines and operational targets whilst working under limited supervision, and be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.  The position requires strong analytical skills, and you will have the ability to identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures on an ongoing basis.

You should have a willingness to work remotely and must be prepared to undertake intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home on a rostered basis. 

Ideally you will have a trade-level qualification.  Prior experience in either water or wastewater processes as well as the maintenance and calibration of chemical dosing systems would be beneficial but not essential.

You should possess strong PC skills and an above-average level of competency with the Microsoft Office suite of tools.  Ideally, you will also have experience with, and be competent in, the use of SCADA systems.

  • Great attention to detail and well-developed analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Desirable:

  • Possession of trade-level qualifications
  • Experience in working with water treatment plants/processes.
  • Certificate III in Water Treatment or willingness to obtain
  • Experience interacting with computer-based SCADA systems
  • High risk work licence (fork truck, EWP)

This role will be primarily based in the northern Adelaide Hills & Murray Mallee areas.  The team is also responsible for operating and maintaining desalination treatment plants located within the Flinders Ranges and Far Northern regions of the state.  The successful applicant will need to be prepared to travel to these locations for up to 5 nights at a time on a rostered basis.

Occasional out of hours work and the participation in an on-call roster is an essential requirement of this role.  The role attracts generous living away from home allowances apply whilst working remotely in the field.

The successful applicant will be supplied with a fully maintained take-home company vehicle, laptop, tablet, phone and uniform.
