The Role

NextSense has an exciting opportunity for a Psychologist to join our team. This position is available as permanent part-time. 

This role is based in our new purpose-built Centre for Innovation at Macquarie University.
The location is a hub for innovation and advancements in research, education and care in the fields of hearing and vision loss.

You’ll make a difference in this role by:

  • providing high quality, client-centred services that assist individuals with vision and hearing loss to achieve their goals and aspirations
  • implementing best practice services for clients in clinical and educational settings
  • providing evidence-based assessment, intervention supports and other strategies to assist clients in achieving outcomes
  • delivering services in person, via telepractice, in a NextSense centre, client home, school or other appropriate setting
  • using a person/family centred framework when providing services
  • developing, delivering and evaluating Individual Support Plans and progress reports with the client, their family and relevant others

Our Purpose and Ambition

NextSense is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with vision or hearing loss across Australia. We work with children, adults, and their families, providing a holistic approach to hearing services for newborns through to people over 90 years old, and helping children who are blind or have low vision to develop the right skills, mobility, and independence to confidently explore their world.                                                

NextSense has been breaking boundaries since 1860, and we’ve been expanding our services ever since. Today, we deliver world-class education (both to children with sensory loss and to professionals in the field), cochlear implants, allied health services, therapy, research, and clinical services to children and adults. We are currently settling into our new world-leading centre for innovation based on-site at Macquarie University that represents a new era for hearing and vision loss. This nationally significant social infrastructure project is a place to nurture, trial and share new ideas and form new partnerships that will drive better outcomes for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision.

To be successful in this role you'll need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria.

Essential: 

  • AHPRA Registered Psychologist
  • Minimum 3 years experience providing Psychology services
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates sound clinical skills and knowledge
  • Works collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Contributes to client outcomes in a team setting
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Working With Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Check

Desirable: 

  • Paediatric experience
  • Prior experience working with clients with a sensory disability or clients with complex needs
  • Working knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) framework
  • Willing to learn new systems, processes and frameworks
